Stories - RLM: Historic Faith Journey We are looking forward to this Historic Faith Journey. There will be many pivotal moments in our lives as we grow in our faith. We hope to share those stories with you and would love to hear your personal stories, as well. Blessed in Generosity Wed, 06 Mar 2013 12:40:00 -0800 My friend has been bringing a high school boy to church with him (from a non-christian family). My friend was out of town so the boy convinced his mom to take him and she not only came that week (three weeks ago) but has been here since, coming becaust she wants to, and get this....Historic Faith win here....since we've been going through this HF series, a random family approached her on Sunday and said they felt led by the Lord to give her $140 cash just because, but she knew why, her electric bill was for $160 and she didn't have a clue how to pay it!!! She was totally floored and we're praying this is a tipping point for her with the reality of GOD's love for her and kind of cool too that the money wasn't the complete amount, that way she knows she still has a part in God working in her life! 52 First Time Tither =) Thu, 28 Feb 2013 14:37:00 -0800 I finally got a job and was able to tithe for the first time today! =) Yay! 51 Praising God Wed, 27 Feb 2013 14:23:00 -0800 I have been involved at Real Life since summer 2009.  I am currently in a home group and a men's group with Celebrate Recovery. I was looking to rent a place in the summer of 2010.  I have a Christian friend who was unable to find work in the area and, along with his wife had found work in Nevada.   50 Jesus Gives Life Abundant...and some adventure too. Wed, 27 Feb 2013 11:44:00 -0800 My particular Historic Faith journey could literally fill a book.  It has elminated from my vocabulary words such as, "chance", "coincidence", "luck", and others in the same vein.  They have been replaced by "divine appointments", "God's provisions", "blessings", "abundance", and so on.   49 The Grace of God is Overwhelming Wed, 27 Feb 2013 11:16:00 -0800 My faith journey was not as simple as expected.  God did bless financially with an additional $10,000 but took it all away and then some.  I had $12,000 in spine surgery.  My wife left takeing her half of assets/cash, went through a foreclosure and a $10,000 tax debt (that God miraculously recovered).  So the income didn't come as expected, however the good part is that when I knew I was broken God changed me.  He humbled me and allowed me to be a part of my daughter-in-law's healing.  She was saved and baptized, yahoo! God had a different plan than Ask, Trust, God gives money, We give it back.  He asked for my hearth and love and healed me so I could heal others. There is an uncertain future, a mountain of debt, but a huge hand of love and grace.  I can't wait to be with him, but don't want to miss my slice of history  He will provide what He requires. 48 Fruit of the Faithful Wed, 27 Feb 2013 11:13:00 -0800 I began attending RLM on a regular basis on August 11.  I participated in the 101 and 201 classes.  I started tithing, volunteered as a greeter and also the Thrift Store and have been blessed immensely.  I had to quit at the Thrift Store because of health problems but I am hosting a small group bible study.  Thank you so much for the many ways to grow in the faith and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. 47 God Provides Wed, 27 Feb 2013 10:54:00 -0800 We upped our tithe $50 a month last spring.  We did not fill out a card as it is between us and God.  He is providing for us to be able to do this, without Him we could not do this on our limited income. 46 Blessed in Sacrifice Wed, 27 Feb 2013 10:49:00 -0800 We have been blessed and are often able to purchase much more than our "needs" throughout the year and have the opportunity to give to others.  When Historic Faith was presented, we had just had some uncexpected medical bills, but still wanted to participate in Historic Faith.   We prayed and felt called to surrender Birthday and Christmas presents to each other for making a contribution to Historic Faith.  Since then, I was given a raise at work and now have more to give! God has truly blessed us and we love the opportunity to give back to God and to others around us in need.   45 God is Good Wed, 27 Feb 2013 10:46:00 -0800 God has been very good to us throughout the year, healing our bodies, for my daughter and I and some of my sisters as well.  We are blessed, thank you for all you do.   Many blessings. 44 Blessed Wed, 27 Feb 2013 10:44:00 -0800 This year we gave $1,000 for Historic Faith.  The Lord has continued to bless us all year - financially and every other way.   43 Historic Faith Journey - Internship Program Sun, 24 Feb 2013 14:19:00 -0800 53 Historic Courage - Rooted in Love Tue, 05 Feb 2013 09:16:00 -0800 “I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources He will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit.  Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in Him.  Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.  And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high and how deep his love is.” – Ephesians 3:16-18   Just before Christmas we posted a story on John Givens, and his journey of Historic Faith, as one of our elders currently serving in Afghanistan.  John’s story included a note he’d written home about a little boy.  The boy’s father had carried him into the Army Field Hospital, where John was stationed.  The boy had been seriously injured in an IED last spring and hadn’t walked since.  The father was hoping his son might get help from the medical staff. John’s medical group responded and constructed a “homemade” walker for the boy, showed him how to use it, and helped him take his first steps since the explosion. One of our home groups has been following John’s story.  In the process they have begun their own Historic Faith journey as a group, committed to praying for him and other soldiers currently deployed.  God prompted some of the group members to ask John for a tangible way of serving his medical group.  John said they had a need for clothing for young boys.  Sadly, the hospital sees many boys severely injured from explosions, similar to the story above.  John said children arrive badly wounded and often times their clothes have to be cut off.  The team doesn’t have clothing to give the boys as they heal and eventually leave the hospital. The home group went to right to work with John’s request shopping at Thrift Stores together, buying piles of boys clothes in good condition to send to Afghanistan.  One of the home group members thought of John’s story and the “homemade” walker.  So, they also found a way to donate a medical walker.  They are pooling resources to send off the package with love and prayers. What’s great about this story is the way the home group has thought outside the box to find a way to serve.  We love to hear stories of people stepping out to serve together and grow in new ways.     Historic Faith is about standing out despite the culture.  The people in this Home Group could’ve spent their time and money in ways to further their own personal kingdom, but instead they’ve chosen to invest in God’s kingdom and spread the hope and love of Christ.  Much like the verse from Ephesians above, we have all experienced God’s love.  It’s our job to let that love take root deep within us and allow the Holy Spirit to empower us to respond with action. Lives can be changed in the process of each and every way we work to love God and one another.  God’s love reaches far and wide and deep…and all the way to Afghanistan.  Thanks for loving well LIFERS, and for daring to believe we can reach the world for Jesus, one person at a time and own our slice of history.   42 You never know how your story can impact someone else, feel free to share it here. He has also served as an Elder for RLM since 2010 and is committed to his call, and allowing God to use him however He chooses. This became even more apparent this last year, as John was nearing retirement from the military.  He was working with the VA in Spokane, when he received his orders for deployment to Afghanistan; working at an Army Field Hospital as a Nurse Anesthetist, assisting in repairing some of the most severe war injuries. His character and attitude toward his deployment have been admirable, especially when leaving his wife and two sons at home and stepping up to accept the challenge to serve his country.  He’s also a great example of displaying Historic Courage, owning his slice of history for the time and place God has appointed him. John is seeing God’s work in his journey, recently sending this note and picture home, regarding an encounter in the field: This young Afghan boy was affected by a serious IED explosion last spring affecting his brain and mobility. He was carried into our clinic two weeks ago by his father who was desperate for us to try and help him walk again. With limited resources our team fashioned a custom "walker" and showed the boy how to use the walker to take his first steps since the explosion. Today he walked into our clinic for a follow up visit with a beaming father "in tow". Oh and the "walker', well he no longer needs it :) We celebrate John’s service to God, his family, the church and our country.  Thank you for your courage to serve and for sharing with us. 41 Historic Faith Journey - Sharon Family Tue, 20 Nov 2012 11:59:00 -0800 The Sharon family made a Historic Faith commitment at the end of 2011. Even in the middle of a tough financial season, they wrote down a number they prayed they could meet, and left it up to God. Check out their story...and see how God moved.   39 Historic Faith - Immersion Win Story Sun, 07 Oct 2012 09:48:00 -0700 Because of your Historic Faith, and the method and manners in which you live your lives, we are able to train churches from all over the nation and the world in relational discipleship. 40 Historic Faith Update from Jim Mon, 10 Sep 2012 09:38:00 -0700     Dear Church Family As the summer closes, I am excited that we will see so many of you back on the weekends and involved with your small groups. It has been my prayer that you would have a close relationship with Jesus that would make your vacations with your families special. You hear me say it often - without Jesus there is no real relationship. Time with the family but not with Jesus can sap our strength rather than grow us. It takes Historic Faith to follow Jesus in every area of our lives. I wanted to send you a letter to catch you up on several things regarding your church family. All spring and summer the leadership team has earnestly prayed about what the Lord would want us to do this next year. We are excited about what He has been leading us through and can’t wait to share it.  Let me share about what has happened in the area of leadership here at Real Life. Dan Lynch, who has been a part of this church for thirteen years, is retiring from the Eldership. He started out attending, joined the staff to teach and train many of our new believers and leaders, and for the last couple of years has served as an Elder. He will continue to teach but he and his wife, Maxine, felt that it was time to slow down. I love them so much. They have played such an important part in my life personally and in the life of the church here. They are living examples of Historic Commitment to our Lord for all the days of their lives. Please make sure you thank them when you see them. Secondly, Dan Cullum, who had been an elder here for eight years, is now returning to the Eldership after taking 2 years off. We are excited to have him back; he also has meant much to this team over the years.  God has been doing amazing things even during the summer.  The CDA campus has had over 300 per week attending. Outreach has happened in the downtown area as a result of that new work.  People are being drawn to Jesus for the first time and many are coming back after being away. RLM Silver Valley is now buying their first building and will be getting it ready for services as well. What an amazing story---Gene and his team have been used by God to bring over 400 people together weekly in that little geographic area. It has been so packed that some have not been able to attend but with a new venue they will be able to reach more for Jesus. Richie and Greg at the RLM North Spokane have also been busy. The church there is now buying their first building, too.  They have had over 400 a week during the summer in just their second year in existence. RLM-on-the-Palouse (Moscow) church is almost running 2000, and is considering options for growth as well. RLM Spokane Valley is almost at 2000 as well and is experiencing issues related to overcrowding as well so God will have to help them figure out what to do next. RLM Treasure Valley (Meridian/Boise) church has experienced growth during summer too and RLM Newport is having decisions monthly, and in the midst of an economic downturn in that area, is remaining faithful and being used by God to serve. These are stories that tell of Historic Courage, Commitment and Sacrifice.  You are a part of each of those stories through your prayer and generosity. On a bitter sweet note, Jim Blazin is joining Venture Christian Church in Northern California. Jim began serving at RLM as a volunteer, later to become a community pastor here. Over time he became the team lead for community pastors and eventually an executive team leader over several departments. The church he is going to is led by Chip Ingram.  The leadership there has asked Jim and Christy to develop the new small groups' ministry.  The Blazins are such dear friends.  I, as well as all those who know them, will miss them greatly. Also, Ron Detwiler who has been a part of this church for twelve years, has now been hired by Riverside Church in Florida. He and Christina, also started as volunteers (Ron was a police officer) and eventually came on staff to be a home groups pastor and later the head of our security team. Ron is helping a church we trained in small groups to become a disciple making church. And finally, we want to appreciate Steve Cronin, who has been with us in the Maintenance Department for many years, and has retired from our paid staff. We appreciate all that Steve has done and continues to do. We are blessed by both his and his wife’s servants’ hearts as they continue to volunteer. We love them dearly. As we seek to make disciples and grow leaders of disciple making churches, where ever God leads, we recognize that this place is being used as a launching pad.  It seems like God is doing that again with Jim & Christy. They model faith, commitment and courage as they step into this new adventure.   Finally, we would like to celebrate what the Lord has done here at Real Life through his people with the Historic Faith Journey we have been on since April.  You, as Lifers, have proven to be committed, courageous, generous, and sacrificial. This has made a powerful impact on our church, and has advanced the Kingdom in a very tangible way. Through almost five months of our two year financial commitment, 15% of what was promised has been given. Thank you for committing and faithfully honoring your commitments.  We are excited about our 771 families becoming first-time givers since the beginning. They have embraced generosity with their resources and are on a faith journey of seeing God work in their lives in new ways.  We exist as a church to make disciples of Jesus in every way, which includes the area of faithfulness in finances. Here in America, it is a big deal to let Jesus guide our finances.  These new givers represent solid evidence that God’s people here at Real Life are starting to mature and grow in Christ.  The total amount of households represented in participating in giving is now 3599! We celebrate that generosity, sacrifice and faithfulness at Real Life has increased significantly. This demonstrates that a large percentage of our congregation is committed to believing in Christ to the point of impacting their commitments not just in words,  but in actions. When the rest of the world is about themselves – reacting often in fear, you have been about Jesus and His mission, trusting and faithfully responding to Him. Thank you for your faithful generosity.  As a result RLM has made $44,000 more in additional principal payments, over and above scheduled payments.  At summer’s end, this will be a total of $343,000 made in additional debt payments. We have even paid off one note in its entirety.  We will soon be making double payments on the loan and will be moving towards further ministry at the same time. We certainly have cause for continued celebration as we reduce our debt, and are freed up to invest in what we value most - making disciples. We are only able to do this as you continue in your faithfulness of following Jesus in every area, including the area of your finances. I trust that God is blessing you in so many ways as a result of your historic faith journey. We know this – no matter what – what we give to God is never wasted and we are storing up treasure in heaven for doing so.  As I close this letter, let me ask you to continue to pray for us as a church. Pray for wisdom and courage and faithfulness. I pray that you will continue to seek the Lord and give us grace as we strive to do that which we know we should. It is an incredible task and the enemy hates us for even trying. I pray our church abides in Christ and as a result is able to bear fruit. I pray that we look past each others’ faults and when we see a problem we eagerly join God in what He is doing to change things. I pray that our church leaders and people are able to discern the good from the great. That we have balance and as a result continue the marathon –it is not a sprint.  Thank you for your time as you read this. Thank you for your love and prayers. I pray that this year will be another year that makes a difference in our slice of history.  God bless, your brother and pastor,  Jim Putman   38 Community Day Win Stories Wed, 29 Aug 2012 15:22:00 -0700 Thank you to all who helped prepare for and serve on Community Day  - it's YOUR Historic Faith that makes this possible LIFERS!   37 Donations in the Dog Days of Summer Wed, 01 Aug 2012 13:07:00 -0700   Four teenage boys with the STAND (High School Ministry) could have spent a hot summer day at the beach…but they chose to sit outside, on one of the hottest days of the year.  Camped on their neighborhood roundabout on a couch they “borrowed” from their community pastor, where they collected food for our food room for 15 hours.    They sent out an e-mail to all of their STAND student counterparts.  Several showed up in support and to donate food, and they all enjoyed a great day, in relationship, serving the church.  One woman stopped and asked for details on what they were doing and why.  When the boys explained they were collecting food for the RLM food room, she said she worked for a hotel in town and would love to donate some new toiletries.  She showed up with eight boxes; each one full of shampoo, conditioner and soap. The boys arrived at the RLM food room on a warm Tuesday morning, with a truckload of food, all donated from passersby.  Their Hayden STAND youth group leader met them at the church, celebrating their work and the boys have committed to doing another food drive next summer.   So, in summary:                                                                                              STAND Community group                                                                                                   4 teenage boys                                                                                                 15 hours in the hot sun                                                                                                   1 great idea to serve the church                                                                                                + 1 truckload of food and toiletries                                                                                                         Historic Generosity      Way to BE the church!  36 Cd'a Campus Win Story- Historic Faith Journey Thu, 24 May 2012 11:52:00 -0700 Hey LIFERS, we want to celebrate how many of you are stepping out in faith and giving generously.  Here's a story on our new Cd'A Campus, which we have only been able to start because of your faith and generosity.  Rejoice LIFERS! =D     35 The gas tank story...
